Hoof Trimming
Flintlands Ag has been providing Functional Hoof Trimming services to Tasmania since 2015. Functional Hoof Trimming encompasses lame cows and preventative trimming. Brendan is trained in the Dutch 5-step trimming method and is the only hoof trimmer in Tasmania with a mobile stand-up crush. Hoof trimming benefits both beef and dairy cattle and ensures herds are productive and healthy.

Functional Trimming: Herd Health
Functional trimming for herds ensures that hooves remain in a natural position, alleviating pressure from her legs and optimising productivity by preventing future health issues relating to lameness.
Trimming your herd regularly, as part of your dairy season cycle, also ensures that health issues such as lameness are identified and addressed in due course; in some instances, these issues can be identified before lameness can occur.
Lame Cow Trimming
Flintlands Ag offers trimming for lame cows, getting them back in the production line quickly and to minimise losses associated with injury and lameness. Trimming a lame cow will restore function in the hoof.
Functional Trimming for Bulls
Lameness in bulls is a problem that affects a bull’s ability to perform mating duties. Mating takes a toll on the bull’s back legs, and to prevent this we install blocks to a bull’s back hooves. These blocks ensure maximum comfort and prevent the wearing down of a bull’s hooves during the mating cycle. Preventing lameness in bulls is essential to optimising productivity.
